Transport version 1.0 is a program for children aged 3-7 featuring pictures, sounds and spoken words. It consists of several (31 in this version) types of transport and the objective of the program is for the child to know each of these and to recognise and select the names from a pool of names. In addition, a button for each transport type provides a context-sensitive link to more descriptive information in a help file.
Colourful pictures, spoken words and sound effects are combined to try and make the program attractive, interesting and an aid to learning for young children.

Learning aspects of the program are in the reading and word recognition and in helping to develop familiarity with use of the mouse via drag-and-drop features.

For the more inquiring children, additional descriptive information for each transport type is provided in a Windows help file. The link is context-sensitive.
Trouble-shooting information is also included in the help file to assist you where things don't seem to appear quite right after the program is installed...

• Program requirements:
  • windows 3.1, pc 386/25 or better
  • vbrun300.dll
  • additional custom controls (provided)
  • sound card / sound system
  • 256 colour display, 640x480 resolution
  • 4.5 megabytes hard disk space

• Setup instructions:
  • There are 4 files to download: tran_prg.zip, tran_vbx.zip, tran_gif.zip and tran_wav.zip. These are self extracting zip files containing the various runtime files and custom controls required by the program.
  • tran_prg.zip: Create a subdirectory called TRANSPRT and copy this file into that subdirectory; then rename it to tran_prg.exe and run (either by simply double clicking on it (if you're using File Manager) or if you're in the Windows program manager, by selecting the File | Run menu item and typing in the appropriate path and file name eg. c:\transprt\tran_prg.exe. It will self-extract all the files it contains. The original file (tran_prg.exe) will remain and can be deleted. Do the same with tran_gif.zip and tran_wav.zip .
  • the file tran_vbx.zip contains the additional custom controls needed by TRANSPRT. This is also a self-extracting zip file. Do as above. The files contained can be stored either in the TRANSPRT directory or in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory.
  • Once you've done these steps, create an icon for TRANSPRT and you're ready to go. If you get any problems, drop me a line.

  • TRANSPORT version 1.0 is freeware. There is no registration fee although I would appreciate comments.
