Sunset view showing the Miri Long Jetty which is located at almost
the tip of the peninsular. It was built to facilitate
embarkation/disembarkation when inclement weather made it difficult for
boats to come into Miri's small port. The shallow river and the submerged
sandbank that continues from the tip of the spit for another kilometer
across the mouth of the river makes it possible for only small to medium
sized boats to enter. Cargo ships have to anchor out at sea where loading
and unloading of goods take place. The jetty is now used mainly by Shell
for its crew change operations.

Note: The Miri Long Jetty does not exist any longer. It has been
dismantled to make way for the land reclamation of the Miri Resort City
project (March 2000)
